Absurd Girl is a creative project exploring the strange and wonderful absurdity of life.
I’m a writer and poet rediscovering her voice after many years lending it to others.
I shared my voice with brands and organizations throughout my career–all worthy causes–but this space is finally, fully mine.
Why Absurd?
I am often inspired by the Romantic writers and their legacy. My writing echoes the Romantics–emotion, longing, grief, nature–but with the jagged edges of postmodern life.
Where the Romantics chased the sublime, I chase the absurd. The moments in life that are emotionally overwhelming, yet filled with irony and contradiction; or somehow profound in their ordinariness and simplicity. The moments that transcend and become other. They are absurd.
It is the magic of humanity, the universe, the natural world colliding to remind us that we are alive. That this is our world, our life, and isn’t it a wonderful gift to be alive?
The choice to live, to recognize and cherish the absurdity of life is always waiting for us. To choose love and hope over nihilism. To show up and try. To find joy in the mundane. To choose ourselves, each other, and the natural world we call home and see the wonder.
If you’re looking for meaning, connection, a spark in the dark, I hope you’ll stay a while.
